Farmers working together for nature.

About Us.

We are a group of local farmers and landowners
working together to address the environmental challenges affecting
our countryside.

Our environmental priorities are to restore:

  • Our river and wetland habitats

  • Wildflower rich grasslands

  • Ancient and native woodlands

  • The health of our soils and water quality

Our Projects

We meet regularly to learn about the progress of projects on our farms, to share what we know and to learn from others.  We have many live projects.

River Restoration & Water Quality

Our group is working with the Wessex Rivers Trust, The Piscatorial Society and The Test & Itchen Association on several projects aimed to improve the ecological status of our rivers

Biodiversity in the farmed landscape

Uptake of Countryside Stewardship is strong across the group which in turn is leading to a significant increase in the proportion of hedgerows and field margins managed for nature.

Chalk Grassland Restoration

Following the example of others there is growing interest in linking fragments of chalk grassland between neighbouring farms, particularly on the steep scarp slopes of the downs.

Our Members.

We are some 40 farmers and landowners sharing our knowledge and experience.  There is a mix of arable, livestock, dairy and mixed farms, an alliance of large estates, commercial farm businesses and smaller mixed farming enterprises.  We recognise the need for environmentally friendly farming and that by learning together we can both produce food more sustainably and restore nature.

Our Aims

We are naturally concerned about the decline in wildlife, the health of our soils, the pollution of our water and the effects of climate change.
We want to play our part in tackling these problems.

We invite you to read about us and our projects, as we will need your support if we are to achieve our vision of a wildlife rich landscape alongside our commercial farming businesses.
